The aim of this article is to assess the impact of information and communication technologies, in particu-lar fleet management systems, on professional drivers, in international road freight transport within the European Union. Operating in a highly competitive environment and experiencing a growing shortage of staff, the industry is increasingly making use of technological monitoring of employees in order to increase their productivity and reduce operating costs. Despite the unquestionable benefits in various areas, the negative aspects of such a strategy are also gradually being noticed, which partly neutralise the original effects achieved.
