Abstract

Australia has introduced an innovative labour market policy giving backpackers the opportunity to travel across the continent and at the same time to sightsee, to get some rest, to study and to earn money. The immigration programme called Working Holiday Visa (WHV) was developed and dedicated to this market segment in order to boost numerous branches of domestic industry by employing foreign students (e. g. backpackers). This is a globally unique, extensive and well- prepared project from which Australia benefits in social and economic area. This paper presents the results of the query of the foreign literature and raports that describe the kind and places of backpakers employment on Australian labour market. On the basis of the obtained data the above programme was characterized in terms of its appropriability. One must admit that the WHV program is globally innovative and that the employing of tourist impacts the development of many sectors of Australian industry.
