Abstract

The concept of value chain describes the full range of activities through which a good or a service passes from its conception to its distribution and beyond. Integration into Global Value Chains allows small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) to participate in the global economy. Cooperation within a network of partners can enhance information flows and learning possibilities, introduce new business practices and more advanced technology. On the other hand, SME s’ involvement in value chains demands greater managerial and financial resources, as well as the ability to meet international standards. The paper aims to show the possibilities and barriers of integrating SME’s into Global Value Chains. Therefore the results of research several world’s organizations, included UNCTAD and OECD are presented. The article ends the conclusions regarding/ concerning the capability of SME’s , as well as the activity of regional authority, who might play the important role supporting the local companies.
