Abstract

Purpose – The main purpose of this article is to present the results of a study on the determination of the impact of sources of financing innovation projects, innovation activity of industrial enterprises of the SME sector in Eastern Poland, which in particular take into account the expenditures incurred for innovation and implementation of new / improved solutions. The main hypothesis of the research is the claim that innovative activity of economic entities is dependent on a number of determinants, and the specific source of funding for innovation projects can destimulate or stimulate innovative activity in multidirectional way. Design/methodology/approach – The survey questionnaire concerning the financing of innovation projects in the industrial enterprises of the SME sector in Eastern Poland was attended by 626 individuals belonging to the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the area of Eastern Poland, which includes the Warmia-Mazury, Podlasie, Lublin, Świętokrzyskie and Podkarpackie regions. In order to determine the impact of financing of innovative projects on innovation activity models based on probability analysis was used – probit model. Findings – From depicted in the literature forms of financing innovative projects, each has a positive impact on the implementation of the innovation process in terms of willingness to incur expenses for innovation and R&D activities. A large part of them indicated in the literature as „The activating, determinants” however, may have a different character in terms of statistical modeling. Originality/value – The article raises important from the point of view of the cognitive aspect in the development of the activity of innovation processes in enterprises, which are the forms of funding for innovative projects. The article specified that the sources of funding are stimulating or destimulating incurring expenditures on innovative activities in different aspects and implementation of innovative solutions in the field of technological innovation among industrial companies of the SME sector in Eastern Poland. The article is a continuation of the discussion of this topic, which was conducted in Podlaskie and Zachodniopomorskie region.
