Abstract

Basing on Anna Zielińska’s monograph titled Mowa pogranicza. Studium o językach i tożsamościach w regionie lubuskim (2013). The article presents and comments upon selcted multiligual phonetically reported enunciations by inhabitants of a German-Polish borderland collected as part of a study cunducted between years 2009 and 2013. The aim of the study was to show language diversity present in the region annexed after World War II after which it has been named “lubuski”. The article demonstrates an attempt to look into reminiscences of people from borderlands from the literary perspective. The texts from Language of the borderland are considered markers of regional identity associated with transformation of German-speaking regions or domination of German language into regions of Polish language or domination of Polish language. The article also raises the issue of autobiographic miniatures as a quasi-genre generated by fragmental responses by people speaking German, speaking in “kramsk” dialect, speaking Polish for people whose mother tonque was German, speaking in southern borderland dialect, speaking “poleski”, Ukrainian, Lemkos language and speaking in the dialect of Polish highlanders from Bukowina.
