Abstract

The development of digital technologies in countries of the European Union is a very interesting research problem, especially due to its large diversity. Currently, the development of digitization testifies about degree of innovation in a given region. In connection with the above, the research goal was to determine the level of digitization in Poland against the background of the average European Union Members. The research methodology was based on the theoretical analysis of the digital economy indicator and digital society (DESI). This indicator includes five areas: communication, human capital, Internet use, integration of digital technology and digital public services. Each area has been studied in detail. This means that following information were given: the value of DESI for 2016 and 2017, held in the Community, as well as the average value of the indicator for the group of the weakest countries and for all EU member countries. The result of such a study was to determine what position Poland really takes in comparison with the European Union in the field of digital technology development. As already mentioned, the dynamic development of digitization is one of the most important elements supporting the innovation of a given region. Therefore, it is so important to implement projects that increase the country’s digital capabilities. The main conclusions from the analysis are as follows: the progress of digitization in Poland is still too low, there are no qualified IT specialists, there is still the phenomenon of digital exclusion, because a large part of society is not able to use the Internet. All this makes Poland look unlikely compared to other Member States. Currently, it is in a group of countries that can not cope with the implementation of digital solutions.
