Abstract

There are many factors that influence the decision of choosing foreign markets, which validity largely depends on the internationalization forms of the company and its development strategy. International companies operate on markets that differ from each other geographically, economically, institutionally and culturally. That is why we can ask, what really influences the choice of these markets? The purpose of this article is to examine the effect of psychic distance, especially cultural distance, on the decision process in choosing a foreign market for the location of Polish direct investment. The article uses Hofstede’s cultural model and on its basis cultural differences between Poland and the five other countries, which are the biggest recipients of Polish direct investment, are presented. The research hypothesis assumes that there is a negative dependence between cultural distance and the scale of FDI inflow.
