Abstract

The paper presents the essence of water deficit and the methods of its measurement as well as the impact of water resources on the economy and the standard of living from the perspective of water management in Poland. The author commences with a brief analysis of water management in Poland. Then she interprets the essence of eco-development and sustainable development and its connection with the axiological attitudes, ranging from eco-centrism and anthropocentrism to biocentrism. She gave more space to the description of concepts and consequences of weak and strong sustainability as well as the sensitive and restrictive principles of sustainability. In conclusion, she dealt with the issues of gauging sustainable development.
