Abstract

The aim of this paper is to verify the competitiveness the European Union in a situation of deterioration of its position on the international market. The analysis covered the period 2005–2015 and particular attention was paid to the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on trade in services. Research conclusions show, that it had a negative impact, especially in labor-intensive services, but less in modern services. The latter enjoyed increasing demand on the international market. Member countries adapt to it through specialization in the export of other services. It resulted in rising income from trade in services. Despite this, the EU’s share in the international division of labor decreased. It signaled the need to intensify efforts to strengthen competitive advantages in modern services.
