(The peri-urbanisation in the Poznan metropolitan area)

Abstract

The paper presents the general characteristics of peri-urbanisation defined as a process of urban transformations which take place outside the urban cores but within rural areas with city influence predisposed in particular to multifunctional development. Then, the assessment of the peri-urbanisation was carried out within territorial units comprising the Poznan Metropolitan Area. The examination procedure was conducted with the use of the taxonomic methods. The results argue that the biggest dynamics of changes on peri-urbanisation features occurs in rural gminas and rural parts of urban-rural gminas whose spatial arrangement creates a mosaic around the city of Poznan. Thus, the theoretical assumptions of peri-urbanisation were confirmed.
