Abstract

The article presents issues related to real estimation in the life cycle costs of railway vehicles in the aspects of their purchase and subsequent exploitation. The components of the vehicle life cycle costs and described dependence of the their value on design features of the vehicles have been defined. Special attention was turned to issues related to the reduction of energy consumption. The purpose of this article is to draw to the role of economic aspects in specifications for the purchase and modernisation of rolling stock and the need to improve their methodology also during of the operation of vehicles.
