Problemy Transportu i Logistyki

This article outlines the origin and the development of the activities pursued by the members of the Department of Transport, which is part of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Katowice, within the scope of performance of scientific research, expert and educational functions. The 48 years of existence of the Department of Transport, which deals with issues related to transport, forwarding and logistics, may indeed be divided into an early period of building up a profile of the scientific research centre established by Assistant Professor Jan Wiesner, and then, the period in which the members of the Department maintain the established standards and undertake new initiatives justified by broadly-defined transformations. The Department of Transport conducts scientific research essential in terms of the existing major trends as well as the socio-economic development of Silesia and the whole country. The research, the publication record and the professional expertise are closely connected with the provided educational processes offered in the field of Economics, specialization of ‘Transport and Logistics’ as well as in full-time and part-time first-cycle studies for engineer’s degree and a newly-launched three-semester second-cycle course in the field of Logistics.
