Abstract
Inland waterway transport can provide an alternative to road transport in the european cities. Waterways tend to run through the town centers predisposes them for transport. This transport mode can play an important role during rush hour traffic. Justified by the following arguments: – the location of cities along the rivers; – the possibility of adapting the fleet to local navigation conditions; – increasing problems with parking in city centers; – the relatively high cost of parking; – low road transport safety; – closing town centers to traffic. European cities facing the challenge of urbanization, increasing demand for transport of goods and an increase in traffic can make use of the potential of inland waterways to supply trade, waste disposal, production and distribution. In this aspect strengthening the role of inland ports in developing green logistics.
