Abstract

The article analyses the origin of the utilitarian vision of modern science. It interprets the differences between classical Greek vision of science and modernnatural sciences and humanities. A thesis has been presented that modernseparation of science from philosophy is connected with the dominant claim fromscientists as for usefulness of their research. The knowledge itself is deprecated. This situation has huge influence on modern understanding of academic educationalpurposes and the sense of the existence of universities.
