The scientific reliability is one of the foundations of quality in science. Readers should be assured that the authors of a publication present the results of their work in a transparent, honest and fair way, regardless of whether they are the direct authors or they used the support of a specialized entity (individual or legal entity). The evidence of ethical attitudes of researchers and the highest editorial standards should be the full transparency of information on entities that contributed to the creation of a publication (including, but not limited to scientific, material, financial, etc. input). It is not only a manifestation of good manners but also social responsibility.
The opposed examples of scientific integrity are "ghostwriting" and "guest authorship". "Ghostwriting" is referred to a situation when an individual has made a substantial contribution to the publication, without revealing this participation as one of the authors or without mention the actual role in the acknowledgments section of the publication. The "guest authorship" (also called "honorary authorship") is referred to a situation when the actual contribution of an author is little or not at all occurred and yet the individual is indicated as the author / co-author of the publication.
To prevent the cases of "ghostwriting" and "guest authorship" the editors and publisher of "Marketing and Management" journal have implemented adequate procedures specific to represented discipline of science. Thus, in the case of an article with at leasttwo authors, there have to be submitted appropriate statements about the contribution of each author to the creation of the publication, with the main responsibility of the author submitting the article.
All the cases of "ghostwriting" and "guest authorship" that are a manifestation of scientific misconduct will be disclosed along with the notification of the institution where the author is affiliated. The publisher is obliged to document any form of scientific misconduct, especially violations of the ethics rules in science. The publisher obtains information about the sources of funding of the publications, the contribution of research institutions, associations and other entities ("financial disclosure").
