Abstract

Purpose – The aim of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the composition of foreign assets and liabilities on changes in international investmet position (IIP) of Poland in the years 1994–2015. Design/methodology/approach – For the objective was carried out literature studies, analysis methods of statistical analysis tools in the form of community structure and dynamics of the phenomena. Findings – Research conclusions show, that the composition of external assets and liabilities had a significant impact on the net IIP of Poland. The larger share of high-return investments in assets than liabilities led to an increase in the negative balance of investment income and to worsening of net IIP. In addition, contributed to the growth of the role of other flows in shaping net IIP, thereby increasing the difference between the net IIP changes and current account balance. Originality/value – Positive verification, on the example of Poland, the influence of the “composition effect” on net IIP changes.
