Abstrakt

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie wyników badań z zakresu uwarunkowań rozwoju funkcji turystycznych Atlantic City oraz ekonomicznych skutków obsługi ruchu turystycznego w tej jednostce osadniczej. W historii rozwoju funkcji turystycznych Atlantic City wyróżnić można kilka głównych faz – cyklicznych sekwencji wpisujących się w koncepcję cyklu ewolucji obszaru turystycznego R.W. Butlera (1980). Na początku lat 70. XX w. szansy na powstrzymanie upadku funkcji turystycznych Atlantic city upatrywano w legalizacji hazardu, który miał być główną determinantą „odrodzonej” działalności turystycznej.
